Every Litographs t-shirt is created entirely from the text of a classic book. Click "Zoom in to read" above to zoom in and read the shirt.
These are printed "all-over," which means that the design - the text from each book - covers every inch. The text is completely legible. We print locally, in Cambridge, MA.
We managed to squeeze about 75,000 words onto the front and back transfer sheets for each design. Since the sheets themselves are larger than the t-shirts, there will always be some portions of the book that don't make it onto the shirts. The average Litographs t-shirt contains approximately 40,000 words (about the length of a short novel).
Litographs t-shirts are printed using a process called dye sublimation. Of all the printing methods we've tested, dye sublimation stands out for its resolution, comfort, and durability.
Our shirts are made using white, Vapor brand T-Shirts produced specifically for dye sublimation. Vapor tees are made with high-quality, 100% spun polyester to deliver the look and feel of cotton with the benefits of polyester, like superior sweat wicking. Dye sublimation printing produces vibrant, super-soft, permanent prints that are guaranteed to never crack, peel or flake.
Expect to see a small number of white streaks, much like in the photo on the left, especially around the underarm area. These are unavoidable, and a standard feature of dye-sublimated t-shirts. Each is truly handmade and one of a kind.
First, the design is printed onto heat-resistant paper. The paper is then arranged on a blank t-shirt and fed into a large heat press. As the press heats up to 350 degrees, the pigments vaporize and quickly bond with the t-shirt fibers.
The key feature of dye sublimated clothing is that the design is not printed on top of the garment. Rather, the design is permanently dyed into the threads of the shirt itself, ensuring that it will never fade.
Litographs is committed to promoting literacy, both at home and abroad.
We're proud to partner with the International Book Bank to send one new, high-quality book to a community in need for each poster we sell.
